Helping Our Neighbors When Township Funds Aren’t Enough

Donations are made to Center Township for the People, Inc., our nonprofit organization that works alongside the Trustee’s Office to supplement available township funds and help meet needs that township funds cannot always cover.

Your donations allow us to provide additional assistance with utilities, housing, food, emergency shelter, and other basic necessities. Just as importantly, nonprofit funds give us the flexibility to address needs that can make a real difference in helping someone move forward.

Donations have helped provide:

  • GED/HSE testing fees, currently $183 per student, helping individuals take an important step toward better employment opportunities.

  • Professional bed bug treatment and prevention for individuals and families who otherwise could not afford it.

  • New beds and other essential household items for children and families in need.

  • Transportation assistance, such as a bus ticket for someone who needs to safely reach family, shelter, employment, or another resource.

  • Emergency assistance outside Center Township when the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office or another community partner contacts us about an individual with an immediate need.

  • Additional help with housing, utilities, food, and other necessities when traditional assistance programs cannot meet the entire need.

These donations give us the ability to respond to situations that don’t always fit neatly into a government program or funding category. Sometimes helping someone move toward stability means filling a gap that no other resource can fill.

Every donation to Center Township for the People, Inc. helps us say “yes” when someone in our community needs a hand up and traditional township funding cannot provide the assistance they need.

Together, we can help our neighbors overcome immediate challenges while giving them the tools and opportunities to build greater stability for themselves and their families.
